PRETENSE Who are these people? Are they stupid. Is conformity that important? Waiting to pick up my sister after school is an arduous task to say the least. Everyone wants to be so cool. Rebellion apparently is the norm. Wait a sec, how can this be? How can counter culture be counter culture if it's the most popular thing. Lemme present an example. In Oklahoma, there's a new store that fancies itself to be counter culture in nature (punk, goth). The punk's domain has always been the thrift store. Punk in and of itself was a british working class movement. These guys can't afford a 50 dollar shirt. The usual is a 2 dollar button work shirt bought from Goodwill. Well at "Hot Topic" (the name of the aforementioned "counter culture" store) they have a faded slightly tattered button up work shirt for 50 bucks. This defeats the entire purpose. Everything in today's society has become a buzzword that tries to showcase some sort of exclusivity THAT DOESN'T EXIST. Even more odd is the declining morals present. It defies logic. It brings forth the question, who originated these morals. I'm going to avoid the inevitable religious question present, and base this on something other than my beliefs. Civilization originated in a time past, it went from uncivilized entertainment of instinct to a organized learned society that shied away from these base desires. I ask you this question, why is society reverting to the entertainment of these base desires again? Does not this go against the foundation of society. We hoped to rise above our instinct and become something better. Personal responsibility is becoming a thing of the past. People seem to act upon their hatred and lust more and more as time passes. At what point will we take responsibility for our mistakes instead of tearing our emotions and society apart by trying to explain our actions away. What do these two things have in common? Not alot. They both express the growing trends of society. Society seems to embrace ignorance more and more as time progresses. Film is no longer an artform to people, it's a way to reap the greatest profits to most. Civilization is no longer something to cherish and push along, it has become something to take advantage of, and profit from, no matter the cost
