Manga Video Theatrical Releases in '99: While skimming for news I managed to scrounge up this interesting tidbit in the world of anime. This is from the anime news network. 9/17/98: Manga Entertainment plans two theatrical releases for 1999 Following the highly successful art house run of Ghost in the Shell, Manga Entertainment is planning on releasing two new anime into US theaters next year. "Perfect Blue," last year's femme fatale feature, is just now coming out onto Laserdisc in Japan. The film features a powerful dance soundtrack, as well as a story similar to that of "Single White Female," except the main character is an idol singer. "X - The Movie," the 1996 powerhouse based on the manga from Clamp (Magic Knights Rayearth), features wall-to-wall fighting (something to please male fans, despite being based off a shoujo manga) and a soundtrack by the now-defunct band "X - Japan." The manga has already been published domestically by Viz Communications as "X/1999". "Perfect Blue and X will probably be theatrical releases first next
year then on video and DVD," says a Manga Video spokesman. A
subtitled release of Hayao Miyazaki's Lupin III movie, "Castle of
Cagliostro," is also planned for next year, but no dates have been set
for any of these projects.
