Around the Fur

First of all I have to comment on the production of this CD in comparison to Adrenaline. The bass drum is kind of thick and boomy and they seem to have gone for a heavier sound in production. I personally prefer the sound of Limp Bizkit as far as drumming goes but this sounds like more of an accurate reproduction of them live. If you ever get a chance to see them you will be amazed at how close this CD is to their live sound. Overall if you combined punk rock sound with hip-hop grooves and added in an awesome singer who can scream one second and sing perfectly on key the next you would have the Deftones. I'll rate each track individually on a scale of 1-10. Keep in mind that this is in comparison to every other CD I've ever heard 5 being tolerable and anything below 3 warrants skipping that track. Anything 8 or above is a must listen. So far a 10 does not exist.

(8) Track 1: My Own Summer (Shove It). This was the first single off of Around the Fur. It has a nice slow driving groove to it. Not headbangers music in fact you almost feel like you could dance to it. The rhythym break is actually one of the more mellow parts of the song.

(6) Track 2: Lhabia. Very similar in style to My Own Summer. The rhythym isn't quite as catchy though.

(5) Track 3: Mascara. What's this????? Actually I kind of like it it's a nice slow song. Very relaxed in comparison to the rest of the album.

(8) Track 4: Around the Fur. Catchy rhythym. 4 8th note drum hits with a small upbeat hit in the 3rd beat. Almost hip-hoppy. Flys into a nice riff. after a few measures of slow rifferey Chino screams into a nice pounding main chorus.

(8) Track 5: Rickets. Similar in sound to the first part of Clown by KoRn at least as far as instrumentation goes. Loud, and heavy with a nice groove. One of my favs.

(9) Track 6: Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away). Probably as poppy as the the Deftones will ever get. Easily the most dancable track on the CD the rhythym break will have you hopping.

(7) Track 7: Lotion. Starts out intense and never lets up.

(7) Track 8: Dai the Flu. A softer track than most on this CD.

(8) Track 9: Head Up. A heavy metal groove and the unitelligble lyrics are rapped. It's really pretty intense and features Max Cavalera from Sepultura (now he's in Soulfly) helping out on vocals.

(7) Track 10: MX. Good song and it features what's kind of like a conversation between lovers. A girl helps out on this one.

(8) Track 11: Damone. Dangit why does the hidden track have to be 35 minutes into track 10. And to top it all off the song is good.
