Anime Reviews

This area ironically enough will be devoted to anime. I have quite a bit of anime ranging from Akira to Here is Greenwood. I have barely reviewed 1/4 of but I fully intend to review every title I have seen eventually.

Bandai's limited online store is open. Due to my immediate departure I won't have the oppurtunity to view any of the awesome titles they will be releasing. By the way you can order Drunken Master II (the greatest Jackie Chan movie so far), and Fist of Legend (One of Jet Li's best films) through them they are at www.animevillage.com.

For those of you not familiar with anime let me explain a little. Anime is the Japanese word for animation. This genre of film is gravely misunderstood. The animation ranges from children's shows to pornography (also known as hentai or H-anime). Just as there are good and bad live action shows in the US, tame and gratuitous. Anime also covers this entire range. Anime has received somewhat of a bad reputation, because of how prolific this H-anime is in the US. The main problem actually being the US consumers. Because they chose to promote hentai and purchase the titles the anime companies continue to purchase licenses to more and more of this type of anime. The majority of anime released in the US would probably be around PG or PG-13 if judged by the standards here. It is this niche market for Hentai that has caused the reputation of anime to sink. Bottom line: there is good anime, there is bad anime, there are childrens films, and there is pornography within the genre, just as there is in western film. I will try to provide a service by reviewing the anime I have seen, and also educating you so you know what is good, and what is bad (well bad as far as gratuitous.....stuff).

Now that you've been educated a bit about anime in general, let me welcome you to a genre of film that in many instances, has surpassed western film. Please, peruse at your own leisure the titles listed to the right. My current top suggestion, if you are curious and have never seen any anime before, go to Hollywood Video and Rent all 4 tapes in the Macross Plus series. I can guarantee you will not be disappointed.
