Give it up for O'Phil

Wow if you live in the Oklahoma/Kansas area, go see O'phil the next chance you get. There is a list of dates they are playing at the link to the left. They are one of the best live Ska bands I have ever seen. And they aren't even affiliated with a label. So you can feel cool cause you've been to an awesome concert of a band no one has heard about.

If I remember right how they got their name was they all had a teacher in high school named O'Phil. Well as time progressed this eventually became code word when they saw a hot girl. After a while of saying it it eventually became the band name.

These boys put on a show! If you go to ska concerts to dance then you'll love these guys. Some of the best rhythmic ska I've ever seen. You'll be hoppin'. Just to give you an idea of these guys they do a cover of the song "Just a Friend". (Oh baby yooou, you got what I need). They also do a cover of Kriss Kross's "Jump" and "Murder was the Case" by Snoop Dogg. (all done in ska style) (you can tell there's a bit of a hip hop influence). With song names like Santaholic (about the santa at the mall smelling like alchohol), and songs dedicated to Rambo you can bet these guys are a blast to see. Their debut CD released completely by themselves "Freako Suave" obviously will sound a bit garaged but it's a good listen.

Well now for the concert itself. They usualy play small venues and they usually aren't very packed but there's enough people there to make it fun. You'll walk in and probably see the band members peddling their CD's. Go buy one and help 'em out. These guys have a nice hip-hop quality to their sound that makes it a blast to skank to. They play Oklahoma alot so you should be able to see them without too much trouble. Tickets are always under 10 bucks for their shows. Overall I'd have to say these guys are the best dollar to fun ratio you can have at a concert, besides anything in Oklahoma is better than the plethora of lame christian punk/hardcore bands stationed there.
