Music for the Masses

Well, I picked up the debut CD from Max Cavalera's (Sepultura's former lead singer) new band, and decided after an hour to take it back. The rhythym is amazing and attacks the subwoofer like no other band. If you've the Sepultura album "roots" than you know what this CD sounds like. My only quip, and in my book this is a big quip. Max continues to use the death metal style vocals. Darn, I was hoping a new production style would mask that annoying "I'm going to impersonate Dr. Claw from inspector gadget" growl. They managed to do so in the deftones song "head up" which has Max Cavalera backing up Chino. The production hides the growl. But alas this is not the case. It is in all it's gravelly glory (say that 5 times fast). The best two songs are the ones in which Chino from the Deftones and Fred from Limp Bizkit lend vocals.

Basically if you like KoRn's sound and you also enjoy the death metal growl. Then by all means you should immediately go out and buy this album. Otherwise if musicality, dynamics, imaging, and harmony mean anything at all to you, you need to avoid this album.
